Representative Complex Civil Litigation Cases
Retained as counsel to the receiver of and for a company - formerly a leading home loan broker and originator in Western Pennsylvania - in a federal receivership. Involved investigating and dealing with fraud of former owners and marshalling and preserving for distribution remaining company assets. Receivership process required pursuit and defense of numerous lawsuits in federal and state courts. Resulted in distributions of realized assets to creditors and a complete winddown of affairs, all outside of bankruptcy, resulting in significant savings in fees and costs and increased payouts to creditors. Defense of purported state-wide class action involving claims of overcharges in the sale of mortgage insurance products. Litigation resolved favorably after scope of class was narrowed through successful discovery and pretrial motions.
