Our attorneys have extensive experience in the successful defense of legal malpractice and other professional liability claims such as those brought against architects, accountants, insurance brokers and agents, real estate brokers and agents, appraisers, and law enforcement agencies and officers. We also regularly defend claims against associations, municipalities, state and local governmental agencies and departments, together with their respective directors and officers. Our attorneys have defended a wide variety of complex cases and class actions including those involving issues of antitrust, discrimination, wrongful termination, civil rights, ERISA and pension claims, accreditation, membership rights and dues and general and professional liability.
In addition, our attorneys are very active in the field of continuing education for lawyers in legal malpractice matters. Three of our attorneys have served as chair of the Allegheny County Bar Association Insurance Committee, and several of our attorneys have been chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Professional Liability Committee.
Representative Legal and Other Professional Negligence Cases
Represented hundreds of lawyers charged with professional negligence in connection with all types of matters ranging from administrative (governmental) law to zoning issues. Represented individual lawyers and law firms in cases involving complex patent issues, complex commercial financing transactions, major real estate acquisitions, sales and financings, bankruptcy, taxation, antitrust and personal injury cases. Filed briefs on behalf of the Pennsylvania Bar Association as amicus curiae in important legal malpractice cases before the Pennsylvania appellate courts. Handled cases of first impression in the trial and appellate courts in Pennsylvania and have successfully argued and prevailed in establishing sound principles of legal malpractice law in the appellate courts. Represented major national, regional and local accounting firms in the defense of accounting malpractice claims involving audit and advisory functions. Represented numerous Realtors® in state and federal courts in negligence claims, as well as the national and local Realtors® professional organization, Realtors® Association of Metropolitan Pittsburgh, in the courts of Pennsylvania with respect to membership claims and professional standards issues.
