Our attorneys serve as solicitors to several local municipalities and boards and provide legal advice and representation in all phases of municipal law. In addition, we have extensive experience in municipal financing including large government bond and tax-free obligation issues.
Representative Municipal Law and Finance Transactions
Served as bond counsel to a city government which utilized municipal bond financing to fully fund its accumulated pension debt, thereby reducing the city's current and future pension liabilities and putting its pension plan on a level financial footing. Bond issue was of particular importance to the city as the community had encountered large job and industrial plant losses during the previous fifteen years.
Served as bond counsel to a municipal government and to a bond underwriter in separate bond transactions making use of novel features of the Pennsylvania Transportation Partnership Act to permit funding of highway and interchange improvements in the two area municipalities. Financings served to attract new commercial growth to both communities during a time of limited governmental resources.
Assisted regional municipality in tax-exempt bond financing, enabling the municipality to purchase its electric power distribution system, which provided the municipality an early advantage in electric utility deregulation. Financing enabled the municipality to purchase electricity as a bulk purchaser in the electric power market and stabilized the municipal budget by generating utility revenues for the municipality.
